Lygus Bugs in California Cotton
Lygus, an insect pest of California cotton, is being researched by extension entomologist, Larry Godfrey. In 2002 he sampled lygus nymphs, adults, and plant height in a cotton field in Kings County, CA. He compared plant height with Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) obtained by satellite (SAMRSS), and examined lygus numbers in relation to plant height.

California Onion and Garlic Research Committee (COGRC), formerly the American Dehydrated Onion and Garlic Association (ADOGA)
An important pest problem in dehydrated onion and garlic is the disease white rot, caused by the fungus Sclerotium cepivorum. Locations of white rot strikes are being recorded with a GPS and mapped.

Division of Agricultural and Natural Resources (ANR) North Coast and Mountain Region Planning Maps
The North Coast and Mountain Region counties in California conducted an extensive survey to determine the major issues facing the region in the areas of agricultural, human, and natural resources. These results, along with program strengths, program gaps, potential barriers to addressing gaps, and strategies for dealing with budget shortfalls were mapped to help in the program planning process.
Agricultural statistics were also mapped for the region, including number of farms, land in farms, average farm size, total agricultural value, and total timber value.

Maps available for download as pdf files: Map Index.

Variable Rate Nitrogen Application in Cotton
A three year project was initiated in 2002 to develop a practical method for creating variable rate nitrogen fertilizer application maps based on data obtained through directed pre-season sampling. A second objective is to determine the economic viability of variable rate fertilizer application for California cotton production.
