Advisory Committee

A group of faculty members serves as the Environmental and Agricultural Informatics Center Advisory Committee.

  • Richard Plant, professor, Plant Sciences, and Biological and Agricultural Engineering, serves as director of the Informatics Center.
    Research interests: applications of systems analysis and statistics to problems in agriculture and resource management; geographic information systems; site-specific crop management; applied landscape ecology.
  • Craig J. Benham, professor, Mathematics.
    Research interests: the relationship between structure and function in macromolecules such as DNA and proteins. He has a strong interdisciplinary perspective, with joint appointments at the departments of Mathematics, Bioengineering, and the Center for Bioinformatics.
  • John Bruno, vice provost, Information and Educational Technology.
    Interests: An expert on information systems engineering and management, as well as a veteran professor of computer science at UC Santa Barbara, John Bruno is responsible for providing the campus leadership necessary to assure the effective and strategic deployment of information and educational technology.
  • Shu Geng, professor, Plant Sciences.
    Research interests: agricultural systems; modeling and simulation of environmental impact on agricultural production and food systems; productivity and risk assessment; comparisons of agricultural systems in Pacific Rim countries.
  • Steven Greco, assistant professor, Environmental Design.
    Research interests: dynamic modeling of changes in the Sacramento River system.
  • Arthur Havenner, professor, Agricultural and Resource Economics.
    Research interests: econometrics; time series analysis and forecasting; finance; optimal control.
  • Richard Michelmore, professor, Plant Sciences.
    Research interests: classical and molecular genetics of disease resistance; plant biotechnology; lettuce genetics and breeding.
  • James Murray, professor, Animal Science.
    Research Interests: use of transgenic animals to study gene expression during growth and differentiation, with particular emphasis on post-natal growth and lipid metabolism; molecular genetics; cytogenetics; equine genetics.
  • James Quinn, professor, Environmental Science and Policy.
    Research interests: conservation biology, biodiversity, biological inventories and monitoring; extinction; intertidal ecology; marine fisheries management; environmental data systems.
  • Susan Ustin, professor, Land, Air, and Water Resources, and director of the Center for Spatial Technologies and Remote Sensing (CSTARS).
    Research interests: remote sensing of environmental properties and landscape analysis utilizing optical, microwave, and thermal scanners; radiation interactions in plant canopies and application to hydrological and ecological problems.
  • Bryan Weare, professor, Atmospheric Sciences.
    Research interests: large scale ocean-atmosphere interaction; global climatic change; satellite meteorology.
